"It is a nostalgic time right now, and photographs actively promote nostalgia. Photography is an elegiac art, a twilight art. Most subjects are, just by virtue of being photographed, touched with pathos. An ugly or grotesque subject may be moving because it has been dignified by the attention of a photographer. A beautiful subject can be the object of rueful feelings, because it has aged or decayed or no longer exists. All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person's (or thing's) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time's relentless melt."

ive planned a series like this for quite a while. in my privileged (pah) position in the construction industry, i am one of the few who gets to see buildings like this one, before they've been clad, or partitioned. naked concrete lends itself to a strange and austere atmosphere, and creates spaces and vistas which will never be seen again, once the rooms are built and it's made watertight. that's what i hope will come out in these photographs. to me, this is the site i have trudged around for the past 8 months; that's the floor slab that we had all the trouble with back in october; there are the stairs that we lowered in when it was -11C. so it is with interest, a certain amount of bitterness, and the tiniest semblance of pride that i post these. Let me know what you think.

things i forgot i did
here are some things that i had completely erased from my memory. architecture, 3rd year, 2007. with hindsight i suppose i'm proud. it's only taken 4 years.
